Google on Friday (September 18), removed the popular E-wallet app Paytm from it's play store due to violations by the app on the app store's gambling policies.
Just a day before one of the world's largest sporting events- the Indian Premier League kicks-off, Google removed the app from its app store as a part of the company's efforts to crackdown over apps promoting sports betting.
Paytm plays a central role in the digital payments ecosystem of India and many buyers and sellers depend upon it especially in the time of Covid-19, when people are apprehensive to deal with physical cash. However, it's removal shouldn't be a cause of worry, since those who already have the app installed on their smartphones will remain unaffected by this development and can continue using the app. The move only implies that one can't download or update the app using the Google Play Store. Further, since only Google has removed it from their app store, those who use the app on Iphones, will remain unaffected in all aspects.
“Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal,” -Said Paytm in a Tweet.
